The population is 343 370 people or 4, 3% of the whole population of the country. That puts the region of Blagoevgrad in the sixth place by a number of populations in Bulgaria.
Administratively the region of Blagoevgrad is divided into 14 municipalities, 96 city-halls and 280 settlements.
The territory of the region of Blagoevgrad is rich of many natural landmarks. The felicitous harmony of mountain massifs, river valleys and varied vegetation is impressive. Nine mountains occupy part of the region’s area. The alpine parts of the mountains of Rila and Pirin efficiently match with the round shapes of Vlahina, Maleshevska, Ogragden, Slavianska, Sturgash and Rodopi mountains. All this complements with the fertile river valleys and the defiles of the rivers Struma and Mesta as well as the beautiful rock formations and caves. The height of the particular peaks varies from 60 meters to 2 914 meters.
